Battery Park

New York City’s Battery Park is so much more than simply the place to ‘meet the ferry’.Battery Park is alive with history… its very name derived from a 17th century Dutch artillery battery, which stood between seaward approaches and the growing settlement of New Amsterdam. The last remnant of the era can be found at Castle Clinton. Formerly known as West Battery, the castle should be top of your list, as you’re transported to an era pre-dating Ellis Island, when this historical stronghold provided the world’s first immigration depot during 1855-1890, for some 8 million immigrants to the United States.

The tranquility of the park will make you forget you’re in bustling Manhattan as you meander around this public space with so many hidden attractions. Battery Park is home to The Seaglass Carousel… a delight for children and adults alike. ‘The Sphere’ by renowned German Sulptor, Fritz Koenig, previously located in the square between the Twin Towers, was retrieved from the rubble of the 9/11 attacks, and relocated to Battery Park. Together with other memorials, the park can provide hours of relaxed enjoyment, or periods of reflection. There is something for all the family.

Getting there is easy. You can take a Taxi Cab or Subway stops include: South Ferry, Bowling Green or Whitehall Street.
